Privacy and local processing

Selected files are processed in your browser by a Web Worker. The application does not upload files, filenames, FITS headers, coordinates or results. No account, browser storage, analytics, advertising script, external font request or remote equipment lookup is used.

What remains on your device

Parsed metadata and corrections live in the current tab's memory. Reset clears the selection and terminates active reading. Closing or reloading the tab loses unsaved results. Original files are never modified. Downloads create new copies.

The JSON audit includes filenames and parsed scalar header metadata, which may include object names, equipment details, observation times or location fields. Review that download before sharing it. This tool does not redact metadata from an original FITS file.

Ordinary web requests

Your hosting provider can receive ordinary requests for page, script, stylesheet and local font assets, including an IP address and browser request information. That is separate from local FITS processing. Following a source or publisher link sends a request to the destination under its own policies.

The file-processing origin is intended to remain free of third-party scripts and parent-domain cookies. Subdomains share a parent site; separate origins do not provide complete site-level isolation. Deployment security configuration and hosting retention settings must be checked before publication.

Production hosting

These pages are hosted through ChatGPT Sites on Cloudflare. Hosting may set security cookies such as __cf_bm and process ordinary request metadata to protect and deliver the website. These hosting functions are separate from the application and do not receive selected FITS files or locally processed headers. Hosting notice reviewed November 1, 2026.
